Stay on Track
Please see MassLive for “Keep East-West Rail on Track,” a Guest viewpoint by Citizens for a Palmer Rail Stop, The Train Campaign, Trains In The Valley, and activists from Chester:
This is a response to the presentation at MassDOT’s East-West Rail Study public meeting last week in Springfield. We explain why train service to downtown stations is the best alternative for our Massachusetts cities and towns.
We also propose formation of a Western Mass Rail Coalition by groups in the four counties advocating for statewide train service. We need to unite our voices and amplify our message, calling for restoration of passenger rail service to our large region of the state.
Why?
“This is about revitalizing economic growth across Western Mass. It’s about solving Boston’s housing crisis by attracting new residents to live the good life in more reasonably-priced homes in our cities and towns. It’s about redressing inequality of opportunity for working people and students living in economically-depressed urban areas, and neglected rural areas, which lack adequate transit options connecting them to regional employers and educational institutions, and to the hot economy in the Boston area.”
Stay tuned for more about the Western Mass Rail Coalition!
